How Much to Feed Your Rabbit
- Hay (unlimited): Provide fresh hay 24/7 — a pile as large as your rabbit’s body daily.
- Pellets: 1-2 tablespoons per kg of body weight (adults). Avoid muesli mixes.
- Leafy Greens: 1-2 packed cups per kg of body weight (romaine, cilantro, parsley, kale in moderation).
- Treats (fruit/root veg): 1-2 teaspoons per kg, max 2-3 times per week.
- Water: 50-150 ml per kg daily, fresh and changed daily.
Feeding by Life Stage
- Baby (0-6 months): Alfalfa hay + unlimited alfalfa-based pellets. Introduce veggies slowly after 12 weeks.
- Young (6-12 months): Transition to timothy hay, reduce pellets gradually.
- Adult (1-5 years): Unlimited timothy hay, 1-2 tbsp pellets per kg, 1-2 cups greens per kg.
- Senior (6+ years): Same as adult but monitor weight; add joint supplements if needed.
Rabbit Age to Human Years
First year = 20 human years, second = 30, then +5 per year (medium breeds). A 3-year-old rabbit ≈ 35 human years. Seniors (6+ rabbit years) need bi-annual vet checks.
